Mst. Nasima Begum joined as a Member (Secretary) of the Planning Commission on 12 October 2020. Prior to
joining this post, she served as an Additional Secretary in the Cabinet Division of the Government of Bangladesh. She served as Member of the Industry and Energy Division of the Planning Commission from 19 October 2020 to 05 January 2021. On 06 January 2021, she assumed the charge as Member of the Socio-Economic Infrastructure Division of the Planning Commission.

Mst. Nasima Begum is an officer of BCS 1986 batch. She joined in the Bangladesh Civil Service Administration (former BCS Secretariat) Cadre in 1989. She held various important positions in the central administration of the Government. She worked in the Ministry of Information, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Public Administration (former Ministry of Establishment), NGO Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Water Resources, BIAM Foundation and most recently in the Cabinet Division. For professional requirements and further capacity building, she traveled to India, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Sweden, the Netherlands, Canada and Australia.

Mst. Nasima Begum obtained Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree from the Department of English, Dhaka University and Master of Arts degree from the same department of Dhaka University. In 2001, she obtained another Master of Arts degree in Development Administration from Australian National University (ANU) with AusAid scholarship. While studying at ANU, she was involved in a number of research works. Notable among them are: Government-NGO Relationship in Bangladesh, 1991-2001: influencing factors and future prospects; Utility Bill Payment System in Bangladesh: a public sector service that needs reform; Work Motivation and Productivity; Violence in Student Politics in Bangladesh: a case of Dhaka University; Employee Lateness in the Government Organizations: a case of Bangladesh Secretariat; Conflict Resolution Process in the Chittagong Hill Tracts: issues of participation, decentralization and civil society; The Evaluation of Civil Servants Foreign Training Policy in Bangladesh: its impacts on the trained officials and their peers etc.

As a part of professional requirements, Ms Begum participated in a number of training courses both at home and abroad. Some of these to be mentioned are: Development Administration; Public Procurement; MAAT-2 (Stage-I and II); Advanced Course on Administration and Development (ACAD); Senior Staff Course (SSC); Policy, Planning and Management Course (PPMC); GO-NGO Cooperation in Developing Countries; Decentralization and Good Governance with a Gender Perspective; National Development Strategy Planning Program for Bangladesh Government Officials etc.

Born in Faridganj upazila of Chandpur district, Mst. Nasima Begum’s father late Md. Nawab Ali Mia, was a well known teacher of Chandra Imam Ali High School and her mother Mst Mamataj Begum was a homemaker. Her husband, late Md. Anwar Hossain Patwary, was a Superintendent Engineer in Dhaka North City Corporation. She is blessed with two sons. Her elder son Nafis Anwari teaches at a university and younger son Nahyan Anwari is a student.
