GED has organized a seminar titled “Urbanization and Migration: Understanding Dynamics and Spatial Patterns of Urban Growth in Bangladesh” on 26 November 2025. One of the objectives of organizing the seminar is to facilitate informed policymaking through discussion on critical issues that are pertinent to development planning and strategies for the government. In the policy dialogue/seminar, Dr. Ahmad Ahsan, Director PRI (also former lead economist of the World Bank) and Dr. Rezaul Roni, Associate Professor, Jahangirnagar University made their keynote presentations. While Dr. Ahsan highlighted urbanization pattern, characteristics and policy constraints, Dr. Roni highlighted definitional inconsistencies, data gaps and SDG aspects of urbanization. Guests and Discussants underscored the need for planned urbanization, decentralisation, ensuring basic urban facilities and amenities, job growth, etc. Member (Secretary), GED emphasized the need for linkages between industrial policy and urbanization, relocation of facilities (health, education, etc.) to secondary and satellite cities, strengthening local government institutions, policy consistency and sustainability aspects of cities.
